A few weeks ago, I took a step back and did a self-assessment—a real, honest evaluation of where I was in my career, my business, and my life overall. What I found was not a lack of success but a realization that, to truly take things to the next level, I needed help. It’s easy to assume that as we reach certain milestones, we’ve mastered everything we need to know. But the truth is, even at our best, there’s always room for growth. That’s why I decided to seek additional coaching, to sharpen the tools I already have while building new ones.
This time, it wasn’t just about expanding my business. I’m also navigating both my military and civilian careers, each with its unique challenges. Having a coach provides me with an external perspective that I simply can’t get on my own. They help me see blind spots I wasn’t aware of and hold me accountable in a way that pushes me to be better. In both my military and civilian roles, leadership is critical, and for me, it’s important to recognize where my leadership style could improve.
I think it’s important for people to know that seeking coaching doesn’t mean you’re weak or falling short—it means you’re human. It’s okay to ask for help. In fact, it’s a strength. I’ve always believed that great leaders are the ones who are constantly learning and evolving, not the ones who believe they know everything. That’s why I continue to engage in personal coaching to maximize my skills.
The feedback I receive from my coaches often touches on things I hadn’t considered—areas where I can be more effective or where I might need to change course. Approaching this process with an open mind, being receptive to feedback, and actively engaging in the steps necessary to improve has been transformational. It’s one thing to know what needs to change, but it’s another to actively work on those changes and implement them in real time.
Whether it’s refining how I lead, how I coach others, or how I balance my different career paths, coaching helps me show up as the best version of myself. It’s an ongoing journey, but one that I’m committed to because I know the results are worth it. At the end of the day, we all need someone in our corner—someone to challenge us, guide us, and push us toward our full potential.
As I move forward, continuously working on myself and my career, I have to ask: When was the last time you took a step back and really evaluated where you are? What areas in your life or career might benefit from a fresh perspective?
If you're feeling like it's time to level up in your career or life, just like I did, an outside perspective can make a world of difference. You might be juggling different roles or looking to grow as a leader, and having someone to guide you can be really helpful.
If this sounds like where you're at, I’d love to help you figure out your next steps and work toward your goals. Visit our website to learn more about how we can work together and start making things happen!
